The Workshops

Spring 1998

Identity

In this session, we explore issues related to identity and community and used Adobe Photoshop to generate and manipulate images. We also read My Culture, My Self, an article in Science News(Oct. 18,1997) by Bruce Bower highlighting some recent research on how Western notions of the mind translate to other cultures. See our work!

Social and Political Issues

We read the article,
Computers, Thinking, and Schools
in "the New World Economic Order"

by Monty Neill in the collection Resisting the Virtual Life,
edited by James Brook and Iaian A. Boal (1995, City Lights)
Along with lots of great discussion, we created HTML documents with SimpleText, prepared images with Photoshop and
published our own webpages.

Exploring Themes

After reading an excerpt from Consilience by Edward O. Wilson,we created hyperstacks with Hyperstudio, a popular multi-media presentation software package. With Hyperstudio, one can easily generate linkable pages that include images, sounds and movie clips to present theme-based research projects.
