- Dawkins, "Science, Delusion and the Appetite for Wonder"

Assignment

Bring in 3 images related to one of your questions from previous assignment.

Topics of inquiry gathered from last week's assignment -

  • human suffering, empathy, compassion and impatience;
  • personal sustainability - how to define?;
  • individual vrs community;
  • income in relation to effort - the socio-economics of capitalist consumerism;
  • signal vrs noise - how to define signal relative to a particular audience, as in music preferences of a generation;
  • the concept of threshold- what is it?;
  • observation/experience/research- how to balance;
  • the effects of heat on human vision.

Write a response (a paragraph, a page, a chapter, a novel - whatever it takes )to an excerpt from any of the readings already handed out or from one of the readings and books listed in the bibliography. Ask me for suggestions regarding your interests. Your writing should reflect your connection to the reading, and how this relates to your project for this class.

Prepare for individual meetings with Nita the next two weeks.

Course Requirements

  • Be present in body - come to class.
  • Be present in mind - participate in class discussion.
  • Read the readings, take notes and be prepared to discuss the readings at length in class.
  • Hand in a written project proposal.
  • Hand in a reading response based on a reading from the hand-outs or the course bibliography.
  • Present your work in progress to the class at least once.
  • Present a final project to the class.

 

The above is required in order to get credit for this course.
